It's long been the case that webmasters spend entirely too much time worrying about their META keyword list.
Fact is, they don't really matter. To prove it, here's a video from Google.
There you have it. Keyword META tags don't matter. Just another SEO misconception. For more, check out our post: "SEO Lies, Myths and Misconceptions."

Justin,
I think you need to qualify that phrase a bit to make it accurate. Keyword metatags don't matter... Which is quite different than "keywords don't matter..."
I argue that you still need a keyword list.
Instead of worrying about applying that list in the metatags portion of your HTML, use those keywords for internal linking in your site, in blog posts, and in online press-releases.
Any page that can be searched can be optimized.
You optimize those pages, in part, by selecting the keywords most relevant to your audience.

How right you are, Jonathan.
Keyword analysis, keyword density, etc. DO matter. However, keywords in META tags DON'T.
It should also be noted that keywords in META tags ARE USED in site searches (as mentioned in the video).
I guess the key takeaway here is, don't forget about keywords or even keywords in META tags altogether, but don't get hung up on this very, very small part of SEO.
Valuable (relevant), unique content is still the key.
As everyone at HRmarketer already knows.
